Annabel Whitlatch was born on September 17, 1932, in Attica, Iowa, the daughter of Victor and Florence (Hill) Whitlatch. Annabel graduated from Attica High School in 1949. She received a two year teaching certificate from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa in 1952 and went on to teach fifth grade in Bedford, Iowa for two years. On August 3, 1953, she married Robert Franklin Bristow, of Bedford, in Attica. They started their family of four children; Julie Ann, Jo Ellen, Jan Elizabeth and James Owen, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Robert preceded her in death on August 23, 1970. From 1980-1996 Annabel worked as a medical transcriptionist at the Abbe Center for Community Mental Health in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Annabel enjoyed reading, shopping, flowers and birds and was known to tell a good "story". She moved back to Knoxville, Iowa in 2004 and was a resident of Park Lane Assisted Living and Westridge Nursing & Rehab Center. In July, 2011 she moved to the Henderson Care Center in Henderson, Nebraska, where she resided until the time of her death. Annabel passed away on August 7, 2016, at the Henderson Care Center at the age of 83 years. She is survived by four children; Julie and Jeff Athey of Ridgeway, Wisconsin, Jo and Glenn Larson of Henderson, Nebraska, Jan and Dale Cooper of Mason, Ohio and Jim and April Bristow of Largo, Florida. Annabel was blessed with seven grandchildren: Jacob (Ashley) Athey of Verona, Wisconsin, Justin Athey of Madison, Wisconsin, Grant (Megan) Cooper of Cincinnati, Ohio, Colin Cooper of Nashville, Tennessee, Jonathan Larson and Rebekah Larson of Henderson, Nebraska and Joshua Bristow of Largo, Florida; and a great-granddaughter, Lennon Athey of Verona, Wisconsin. She is also survived by her two brothers, Hugh and (Germaine) Whitlatch and Richard Whitlatch of Knoxville, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends. Annabel was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Florence Whitlatch; a sister-in-law, Darlene (Richard) Whitlatch; and a nephew, Ted Whitlatch. Annabel loved Jesus, her Savior, and took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. She kept in close contact with her family and friends through many encouraging cards and notes and will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 21,2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Olive Chapel Church in Marion County, Iowa. Interment will follow in the Olive Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will follow the services on Sunday at the Olive Chapel Church. For those desiring, memorial contributions are suggested for the Jim Bristow Ministries.
