Barbara Frances Nichol, age 74, of Knoxville passed away Wednesday morning, December 7, 2016, at her home in Knoxville.
A celebration of Barb's life was held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville, with Barb's family present.
Barb was born on May 5, 1942 in Maxwell, Iowa, the daughter of John William and Pansy Marie (Buttz) Hickle. Barb was raised in Collins, Iowa and graduated from Collins High School, Class of 1961. Barb was Vice-President of her class.
On January 29, 1961 Barb and James Ray Nichol were united in marriage. Barb and Jim were high school sweethearts and lifelong friends. Barb and Jim were married for 44 years and blessed with three children. Jim died on December 22, 2005.
Barb was a hard worker all her life. She always worked two jobs while raising her family. Barb was a CNA at Westridge and she gave private home health care for many years. She worked at Rolscreen and later Pella Corp. Most recently, she was custodian for 7 years at 3M in Knoxville.
Barb's love was her family. She was a caretaker for her family, and one of her most enjoyable moments was picking up her grandchildren from school. Barb also liked to spend time doing "Word Search Puzzles" and Solitaire.
Barb is survived by her two daughters, Zo Ann Thompson (Jerry) of rural Knoxville and Bev Nichol of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Jimmy Thompson, Kelli Bingham and husband Jamie, Sabrina Fisher and husband Scott, Cody Nichol, and Katerine Voron; and nine great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Angel, Abby, Eric, Autumn, Alex, Hero, Trishia, and Colt. Barb is also survived by two sisters, Marge Parham and Pat Janes and husband Robert, and one brother Bill Hickle. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Pansy Hickle, her husband James "Jim" Nichol, and one brother in infancy Norman Hickle.
A memorial has been established in Barb's memory to the HCI Hospice of Marion County. The Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville is assisting Barb's family with services.
