Barry's Story

Barry Wayne Allen was born May 6, 1949, in Carrollton, Illinois the son of Harry and Margaret (Martin) Allen.
Barry attended School in Belleville, Illinois, after which he joined the U.S. Marine Corp.   He served a total of 6 years, including two tours in Vietnam.  He was a radio/transmitter operator and he attained the rank of Corporal.   Barry was awarded several medals during both tours of duty;  a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal w/1*, Vietnamese Campaign Medal w/palm, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Awarded 2 Good Conduct Medal, Expert Rifle Badge, and Marksman Pistol Badge Presidential Unit Citation w/*.  
When he returned home, Barry worked for a cable T.V. company and eventually as a carpenter in the construction business.  In his spare time, Barry enjoyed bicycling, and solving jigsaw and word puzzles.  He also was a big fan of NASCAR and Indy car racing.
Barry passed away on Monday, December 5, 2016 at his home at the age of 67 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents. 
Those left to honor his memory include his brother, Fred Allen (Myrt) of White Hall, Illinois; niece, Marcia Price of Carrollton, Illinois; nephew, Ron Brannan of White Hall, Illinois and many other family members and friends.
Graveside Services were held on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Graceland Cemetery with Pastor Brent Hanna, Officiant.
Military Honors were rendered by the American Legion Baty-Tucker Post No. 168, the V.F.W. John Myers Post #3519 and the United States Marine Corps.
