Catherine Mary Conrad, age 95 and three months, of Knoxville, formerly of Iowa City, passed away Friday evening, Feb. 19, 2016, at the Comfort House in Pella. Visitation for Catherine was from 3-7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Catherine’s family was present from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday evening. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016m at the Winfield Funeral Homes in Knoxville. Burial services were held at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Catherine was born on Nov. 18, 1920, on the family farm near Iowa City. She was the daughter of John and Loretta (Neuzil) Vitosh. Catherine attended school at University High School in Iowa City. While in high school, Catherine enjoyed playing basketball. Catherine graduated in the class of 1938. On June 26, 1944, Catherine was united in marriage to Warren Conrad, at the Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. In 1954, Catherine and Warren moved to Marlin, Texas. While living in Marlin, in 1955, they had their only child, Robert Conrad. After moving around for some time, Catherine and Warren moved back to Knoxville, where Catherine worked as a homemaker and continued caring for her family. Prior to Warren's passing in July 2012, Catherine enjoyed Polka dancing and their annual fishing trip in Minnesota. Catherine loved watching ballgames and would not miss a Cubs' game or a Hawkeyes' game. When she didn’t have a game to watch she would often be working in the yard, golfing, bowling, or taking care of others. Catherine loved to cook, especially cookies and candies. Catherine was a proud wife, mother, and grandmother who raised her family in a home filled with love and laughter. Catherine’s family and friends were a very large part of her life. Catherine is survived by her son; Robert Conrad of Knoxville, two grandchildren; Ashley and Kristian Conrad, one sister; Betty Graham of Longmont, Colo., and one brother-in-law; James (Gloria) Conrad of Bennett; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Catherine is preceded in death by her husband; Warren Conrad, parents; John and Loretta Vitosh, and one sister; Rita Brooks.
