Funeral services for Catherine Irene Gelles, 74, of Knoxville, who passed away on April 3, will be held on Friday, April 8. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Mass, followed by lunch, will be at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Knoxville. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Lovilia. Cathy was born on Oct. 29, 1941, to Mike and Barbara (Ahn) Gelles and was the youngest of three children. She was baptized at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lovilia. After graduation from Lovilia High School in the spring of 1960, Cathy worked at Look Magazine in Des Moines, Griffin Nursing Home in Knoxville, then the VA Medical Center until her retirement. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Knoxville. Cathy was a lifelong fan of the Knoxville Raceway and attended races for over 50 years. She rarely missed a regular Saturday night race and would never think of missing the Nationals. Cathy was a regular visitor to Nashville in past years to take in the country music festival. She also enjoyed garage sales, shopping and flea markets. Her immediate and extended family, as well as friends, loved Cathy very much. She will be dearly missed. Her son, Todd Michael, and her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her two older brothers, Edward Gelles of Knoxville and John Gelles of El Cajon, Calif.
