Charles Lee Laird

Charles Lee Laird was born in Knoxville, Iowa on October 3, 1942, to Marvin and Fonda Robuck Laird. He passed away at his home in Emporia , Kansas on June 9, 2019. He was 76 years old.

Charles grew up on farms near Knoxville: he graduated from Attica High School in 1960. In January 1962 he met Frances Balmer and they were married on August 10, 1962. Charles and Frances were blessed to have 54 years of marriage and two children, Cindy and Scott.

Charles spent his life involved in agricultural endeavors; he owned a feed store in Knoxville, worked at the V.A., mowed lawns and managed apartments. In 2010 they moved to Emporia to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Charles is survived by two children, Cindy(Jeff) Shirley of the home, Scott (Tammy) Laird of Ottawa, KS; grandchildren Josiah Shirley of Emporia, Cheyenne(Carlos)Pavon of Brandon FL and the Laird boys: Tanner(Beth), Luke(Karen), and Caleb(Megan) all of the Kansas City area. Most Importantly these last couple of years were his great-grandchildren, Winn and Emery Laird. Chuck is also survived by his sister Linda(Dennis) Nicholson of Indianola and brother -in-law Richard Bevington of Ankeny. Chuck was also happy to call his in-laws family, Kenneth Balmer of the home, Colleen(Dick) Willis of Bardstown KY, and Jerry(Trix) Balmer of Okeechobbe FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Fran and very recently his sister Susan Bevington.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Nazarene , Knoxville, Iowa on July 19th at 2pm. Interment of ashes will be in Gullion Cemetery near Attica, Iowa.
