Clifford Bruce Wilson


Clifford Bruce Wilson, age 71, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on March 4, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Cliff was born on December 28, 1947, in Tacoma, Washington, the son of Robert and Dora (Chance) Wilson. Cliff grew up in the Washington area and graduated high school in Washington D.C. After high school, Cliff attended Community College in Boone, Iowa. He joined the United States Navy in 1969, and proudly served his country for four years.
He was united in marriage to Joyce Dunkelberger in 1970 in Italy. They were blessed with three children, Scott, Jeff, and Jenny. Cliff and Joyce enjoyed over 48 years of marriage before his passing.
Cliff started working with the Iowa State Patrol in 1975 and continued to for over 31 years, until retiring in 2007. After retirement, he worked as courthouse security and transport officer for the Marion County Sheriff's Office until 2015. He enjoyed fishing in Arkansas, hunting, mowing his yard, and traveling with his wife to Hawaii and Mexico. Cliff was a family man and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and taking them to McDonald's. Cliff belonged to the USS Little Rock Association and the State Troopers Association.
Cliff's wishes were to be cremated. Visitation for Cliff was held on Monday, March 11, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville, beginning at 10:00 A.M. A Celebration of Life was held at 11:00 A.M., followed by military honors. After military honors, a luncheon was held at the Church.
Those left to cherish Cliff's memory include his wife, Joyce Wilson; children, Scott (Candi) Wilson, Jeff (Whitney) Wilson, and Jenny Geery; four grandchildren, Sara (Jesse) Burrier, Tyler Wilson, Elli Geery, and Liam Geery; one great-grandson, Michael Burrier; sisters, Cathy May and Erma Kirish; brothers, Robert Stretch (Kathy) Wilson, Jr., and Tom (Karen) Eagleson; step-mother, Karen Wilson; sister-in-law, Julie (Larry) Lockwood; and brother-in-law, Dave (Renae) Dunkelberger.
Cliff is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dora Wilson; brothers-in-law, Arnie May and Jay Clausen; and sister-in-law, JoAnn Clausen.
Memorials may be given in Cliff's memory to his family, and will be distributed with love on a later date.
