David O Pohl 69, died on December 3, 2016 in Abilene, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 2:00p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
David was born August 14, 1947 to David H. and Mary (Hollingshead) Pohl in Knoxville, Iowa. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1965 and attended the University of Northern Iowa. He was united in marriage to Betty Bingham on September 28, 1980. She died on August 3, 2011. After moving to Texas, David worked for several years in the oil fields, then worked in retail for a number of years at Montgomery Ward and Anthony's. David loved growing things and spent much time in his garden when he was able. His real passion was the political scene - especially arguing politics. His family remembers him best with a coffee cup in his hand, talking about whatever was happening in local, state and national politics.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty; his parents; and a sister, Harriett Sue Carson. Left to cherish his memory are two sisters, Rev. Martha Bennett of Traer, Iowa and Sara Simonds (Tracy) of Lubbock, Texas; a step-daughter, Julie; a step-son, William Blaine Hoy; two step-granddaughters; and four step-grandchildren. He was "Uncle David" to three nephews and five nieces and their children.
