Ellen Lurie Folsom passed away peacefully on December 2, 2016 at the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 23 days at the Montrose Health Center, Montrose, Iowa. Graveside services were held at Lincoln Cemetery in rural Knoxville, Iowa with her granddaughter, Larissa Van Donselaar, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasantville, Iowa Public Library (Webb-Shadle Memorial Library) in Ellen's name.
Ellen was born January 9, 1930 to Lorris Wesley and Lora Ellen Flanders Iddings in Pleasantville, Iowa. She was one of six children born to the couple. Ellen attended Pleasantville Schools and played high school girls six-on-six Basketball as point guard. She graduated with the class of 1948.
On January 25, 1950, Ellen was united in marriage to Frank Leslie Folsom Jr. in Nashua, Iowa at the Little Brown Church. Ellen worked for the Farm Bureau prior to becoming a homemaker, after she married. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Susan and Sondra. They raised their girls in Knoxville, Iowa.
In 1972, Ellen went on to further her education. She graduated from the nursing program at Indian Hills Community College in 1973. Ellen worked as a nurse in Knoxville at the Westridge Care Center, Griffin Care Center, and the VA Hospital before retiring in 1991.
Frank & Ellen enjoyed camping at various state parks in Iowa, small music festivals, and the Iowa State Fair. Ellen enjoyed those camping adventures the most when her siblings joined them. For several years, camping was a family affair. She and Frank loved dancing to country music & attended small country music festivals. Ellen also enjoyed crocheting and sewed clothing for her girls and her grandchildren. Each year she looked forward to watching the Iowa Girls State Basketball Championship.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Frank L. Folsom Jr; great-grandchild, Kamrick Moses Van Der Molen; son-in-law, Richard Van Der Molen; siblings: Betty Page, Franklin Iddings, Elena Jones, and Richard Iddings; and one nephew.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Johns (Don) of Keokuk, Iowa and Sondra Jones (Deron) of Norwalk, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Larissa Van Donselaar (Dan) of Knoxville, Iowa, Leslie Van Der Molen of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Lane Van Der Molen (Kristy) of Des Moines, Iowa, Caitlen Jones and Nathan Jones both of Norwalk, Iowa; 3 great grandchildren: Isabella Van Donselaar, Ava Van Donselaar, and Kane Van Der Molen; her brother, Adrian Iddings (Elsie) of Knoxville, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
