Hattie Lavinia Wright

September 27, 1928 - February 20, 2016

Hattie Lavinia Wright, age 87, died Feb. 20, 2016, at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny. Lavinia was born in Lacona on Sept. 27, 1928, to Roy and Edith (Robinson) Swanson. She graduated from Lamoni High School in 1945. She was a fifth-generation and a lifetime member of Community of Christ Church. She moved back to Knoxville and worked at Collins Hospital as a nurse’s aide. Lavinia married Paul Wright in 1965 and moved to Des Moines. She instantly became another mother to Paul’s three young children Vikki, Tamra and Allen. She continued to work for the next 35 years in the healthcare profession. One of the favorite memories of the children was when she prepared Cavetelli. Lavinia loved to sew and enjoyed creating craft projects. Camping was a big part of Lavinia and Paul’s life. They spent many weekends with Good Sam’s camping club along with working at the Iowa State Fair Campground. When they retired, Lavinia and Paul moved back to Knoxville. After Paul’s death, Lavinia moved to Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny, to be closer to her family. Lavinia was loved by all the Staff at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny. She very much enjoyed visits from family and friends, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We know Lavinia is enjoying her reunion with Paul in Heaven. Preceding her in death were Paul (husband), parents, sister (Florence), brother (James). Those left to honor her memory Vikki (Rick) Vencil, Tamra (Keith) Mullen both of Ankeny, Allen (Cathy) Wright of Indianola, grandchildren Craig, Angie, Amanda, Mandy and Geoff, five great grandchildren Annabelle, Alexis, Brooklyn, Hunter and Tryston, nieces Judy, Carolyn and a host of family and friends. Funeral Services were held at Community of Christ Church, Knoxville, on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., with Elder Bill McDonald officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville. Memorial contributions can be made to Community of Christ Church or Sunnyview Activity Center. Online condolences to the family can be left at BertrandFuneralHomes.com
