Janice Knoot

Janice Lucille Mol was the first daughter born to Chris and Irma Mae (Verwers) Mol on April 24, 1940. Janice graduated from Pella High School in Pella, Iowa and had started working at Van's Grocery Store when she was 16 years old. Following her high school graduation in 1958 she enrolled at Central College and during her sophomore year began working in the Comptroller's office. While a junior at Central the store owner at Van's asked her to return and that is when she and Gene Knoot, who also had worked at the store, began their journey of life together. They were united in marriage on June 8, 1962, at the Third Reformed Church in Pella, a few days after her graduation. Janice and Gene moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa and Janice started summer school at William Penn College. She had her secondary teaching certificate already but needed an elementary endorsement to obtain more teaching opportunities. Janice taught 4th grade at Lincoln Elementary in Pella when their daughter, Karen was born in 1963. Gene then took a position with Sears & Robuck in Monmouth, Illinois for two years at which time their daughter, Laura was born. His next transfer took the family to Galion, Ohio and while there Janice taught Kindergarten for three years when their son, Chris was born. In 1969 the family returned to Oskaloosa and were overjoyed to be back with grandparents and other relatives when their daughter, Kathy was born in 1970. In 1975 Gene's final move with Sears took the family to Woodstock, Illinois at which time Janice was fortunate to be a full-time wife and mother. The family returned to Iowa in 1979 when they moved to Knoxville, Iowa and purchased the Coast to Coast Store. This brought much stability and security for the family. In 1990, Gene and Janice built their new home just south of the Red Rock Dam. Janice enjoyed spending many hours working in her flowers gardens and bird watching. Gene and Janice owned and operated the store until January 2018. Janice was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2010 and coped with the ramifications until she succumbed to the long battle on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at the age of 79 years at Jefferson Place in Pella, Iowa. Janice is survived by her husband, Gene Knoot of Knoxville; their four children and their families: Karen and Doug Bacon of Marshalltown, Iowa and their three children: Darren and Sara Bacon, Abigail and Alex Roseen and their son, Jedd, Janice's first great-grandchild, and Brian Bacon; Laura and Matt Devore of Portland, Oregon and their three children: Jordan, Cole, and Cassidy Devore; Chris Knoot of Denver, Colorado; Kathy and Derek Hoyt of Knoxville and their two children: Jake Molnar and Ross Karnowski; and her sister, Connie Mae Van Waardhuizen of Pella. Also surviving are the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Marvin and Julie Knoot of New Sharon, Iowa, Ken Knoot of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Connie (Dick) Knoot of Johnston, Iowa, and Sheila(Bob) Knoot of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Irma Mol; her brother-in-law, John Van Waardhuizen; her parents-in-law, Jim and Jennie (Van Weelden) Knoot; and the following brothers-in-law, Dick and Bob Knoot. Janice was baptized at the Third Reformed Church in Pella and had been a faithful member of the Knoxville First Reformed Church and most recently Celebrate Community Church in Knoxville, Iowa. Funeral services were held on Monday, September 9, at the Celebrate Community Church in Knoxville. Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
