Jay  Rosdail


Jay Russell Rosdail, 70, of Knoxville, IA, passed away Friday, June 21, 2019, at Accura Healthcare of Knoxville. Jay was born May 4, 1949, to James Russell and Mildred Annetta (Cruzen) Rosdail in Ames, IA, while his father attended Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine. He was baptized at Little Sioux Valley Church in Rembrandt, IA. The family moved to Newell, IA, before settling in Pomeroy, IA. Jay was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pomeroy on April 7, 1963. As a Boy Scout of America, Jay became a Lone Scout after the local troop disbanded. He went on to earn BSA's highest honor, the Eagle Scout Award. Jay graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1967. He received an Associate of Arts degree from Waldorf College in Forest City, IA (1969) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD (1972). He worked in the seed industry most of his adult life.
On June 6, 1981, he and Ruth Andrews were married in DeWitt, IA. They were blessed with two sons, Jacob Russell and Andrew Lewis. The family settled in Knoxville, Iowa. Jay was an active member and held offices in the Norwegian Slooper Society of America, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Knoxville and the Knoxville Morning Kiwanis Club.In his youth, Jay enjoyed yearly trips to his grandparents' farm in Saskatchewan, where he drove tractors, rode horses and helped with chores. Jay enjoyed talking about his lifelong interest in travel, especially in northern Canada. He rarely missed the Clay County Fair and the Iowa State Fair. He was proud of his heritage. In 1825, his ancestors came to America on The Restauration, a sloop beginning the first organized emigration from Norway. Jay and Ruth regularly traveled to the annual meeting of the Norwegian Slooper Society of America. Jay enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, fishing, car and tractor shows, photography and woodworking. Family members received clocks and other walnut items made by Jay. Jay is survived by his wife, Ruth Andrews Rosdail of Knoxville; son, Jacob Rosdail and his wife, Ashley and their daughter, Avery Jean, Jay's granddaughter who held a special place in his heart, of Kearney, NE; son, Andrew Rosdail of Minneapolis, MN; his mother, Milly Rosdail Ozinga of Panora, IA; siblings: Gail and husband, Paul Boock of Ankeny, IA, Jan Rosdail-Aegerter and husband, Roger Aegerter of Jefferson, IA, Joy and husband, Steve Klepacki of Derby, KS, Tom Rosdail and wife, Gail of Sidney, NE; Jon Rosdail and wife, Kelli of Granite Bay, CA; sisters-in-law: Evelyn Gainor of Port Hope, MI, and Lorraine Wohlford of Payson, AZ, and brother-in-law, John M. Andrews of Port Hope, MI; along with several aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services were held on June 25 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Williams Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
