Laura I. Boehmler, age 93 of Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi, formerly of Knoxville, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, in Kiln, Mississippi. Laura was born Nov. 3, 1922, in Millinocket, Maine, to Eric and Nelly (Brown) Hopper and attended Sterns High School. On March 7, 1945, she married Robert E. Boehmler in Millinocket, Maine. Following marriage the couple lived in New London, Conn. They moved to Iowa in 1946. In 1964, they moved to Knoxville. Laura worked as a secretary at Central College in Pella for 12 years. She also volunteered with hospice, the senior center, the V.A. Hospital and the public library. She enjoyed gardening, swimming, biking and cross country skiing. She also enjoyed making quilts and donating them to various organizations. Survivors include three children: Larry (Arlene) Boehmler of Springfield, Vermont, Eric (Carol) Boehmler of Sterling, Alaska and Bim (Don) Estapa of Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and brother: Lawrence “Bussie” Hopper of Millinocket, Maine. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Robert in 2009; sister: Colleen Hopper and brother: Rodd Hopper. Graveside service will be held at a later date at Breckenridge Cemetery in rural Knoxville. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established for the Knoxville Rec Center.
