Margaret Marie Van Syoc, 93 of Melcher-Dallas, passed away on July 15, 2017. A graveside funeral service was held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Belmont Cemetery near Milo. Memorial contributions may be made in Margaret's name to the Melcher-Dallas Rescue Unit.
Margaret Marie Curnes was born on June 18, 1924 to Dorothy and Jasper Curnes. Margaret was one of four children born to the couple. She attended Liberty Center Schools.
On June 1, 1944, Margaret was united in marriage to Kenneth Ray Van Syoc. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Margaret Anne.
Margaret worked various jobs over the years. She worked as a nanny, as a waitress, in a factory, at the Knoxville Race Track, and in the Knoxville School District. She retired in 1995.
Margaret will be greatly missed. She is survived by daughter, Margaret Anne (Lester) Cooper of Melcher-Dallas; brothers: Bill Curnes of Alamo, Texas, and Chuck Curnes of Des Moines; 3 grandchildren: Douglas Cooper, Lester Cooper Jr., and Teresa Williams; 5 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; along with many relatives. She was preceded by her husband of 57 years, Kenneth Ray Van Syoc; parents, Jasper and Dorothy Curnes, and an infant brother.
