Marie True Herr Dietderich, 96, of Atwood, IL, passed away Monday, July 11, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.
Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2016 at the First Baptist Church, 231 North Illinois Street, Atwood, IL, with Dr. Lanny Faulkner and Rev. Ashley Shurtz officiating. Visitation was held from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2016 and 1 hour prior to the services at the church.
Graveside Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati, Iowa. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Atwood, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
Marie was born May 16, 1920 to Fredrick and Gracie Herr in Appanoose County, Iowa. She attended several one room schools and graduated from high school in Centerville, IA in 1938.
She married Fred Dietderich on July 4, 1943. To this union three children were born: Sharon in 1945; Susan in 1955 and Stephen in 1960.
Fred and Marie pastored several churches, including Iowa churches at Little Rock, Confidence, Hedrick, Knoxville, Lamont and Aurora. In 1963 they went to Barnes Memorial Baptist Church in Clarksburg, WV. They also ministered in Illinois at West Frankfort, Girard and Atwood.
After the passing of her husband, Marie made her home in Atwood, IL. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Atwood and remained active as long as her health would permit.
Marie valued family and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother(Mammo) and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters: Sharon Goughnour of Springfield, IL; Susan (Sam) Jordan of Carterville, IL; son: Stephen (Karen) Dietderich of Atwood, IL; 6 grandchildren: Shelly, Skip, Jason, Rachael, Daniel and Kendal; 6 great-grandchildren: Austin, Katie, Collin, Kirsten, Caden and Benjamin; sister-in-law: Juanita Stroud of Unionville, Mo and cousin: Elizabeth Offenburger of Chariton, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and an infant sister: Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering of the American Baptist Churches USA c/o First Baptist Church of Atwood.
