Mary Flanders, 88, of Des Moines and formerly of Melcher-Dallas, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Mary was born to Charles and Leta (White) Burgett in Dallas on Feb. 12, 1928. She received her education from Dallas High School. Mary was united in marriage to Joe Dillie. They would later divorce. To this union was born one daughter, JoAnne. She would later be united in marriage to Charles Flanders. Mary worked in the handicraft industry for years. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Melcher-Dallas and a member of Grandview Church of Christ in Des Moines. She enjoyed reading, photography and time spent with her family and friends. She also enjoyed working on crafts and showing at the Iowa State Fair. When the weather was warm, Mary enjoyed being outdoors. Survivors include two sisters; Bev Beals of Knoxville, Sandy Simmons of Des Moines and a son-in-law, Robert Miller of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her daughter, JoAnne Miller, first husband, Joe Dillie and lifelong husband, Charles Flanders. Visitation will be Friday, March 18, 2016, at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas from 6-8 p.m. No service will take place; she will be buried in Dallas Cemetery.
