Michael E Winters


Michael Eugene "Mike" Winters, age 56, of Knoxville, Iowa passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.
Mike was born on October 17, 1962, in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Wendell and Geraldine "Jerri" Jerkins. He grew up in Knoxville and graduated from the Knoxville High School, Class of 1981. While in high school, Mike excelled at sports, especially basketball and track and field. He held the record in the shot-put for 34 years, until his son, Nathan broke his record in 2015. After high school, he attended William Penn and earned his degree in Sociology.
Mike was united in marriage to Karmen Adams on April 20, 1991. They were blessed with one son, Nathan.
Mike spent his working career in law enforcement. He started as a police officer in Chariton and then transferred to Knoxville. He later worked as a parole officer in Knoxville, until his retirement.
Mike liked to detail his car and enjoyed his son's dog, Kinnick. His greatest joy was following his son's athletic career. He took great pride in watching Nathan participate in sports.
A funeral mass was held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. Following services, a luncheon was held at the church.
Those left to cherish Mike's memory include his son, Nathan Winters (Alizabeth Adams); siblings, Wendy Pettyjohn of Knoxville; Teresa (Darrell) Meeks of Belle Plaine, and John (Risa) Winters of Columbia, IL; six nephews; one niece; three great-nieces; three great-nephews; former wife, Karmen Winters; and former mother-in-law, Renabell Adams.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Geraldine Winters; grandparents; former father-in-law, Doyle Adams; and former sister-in-law, Kellie Gotta.
A memorial will be established in Mike's memory and donations will be given to local charities.
