Opal Elizabeth Summy was born May 3, 1920 in Pleasantville, Iowa the daughter of John and Iva (Frush) Burnham.
Opal attended Pleasantville Schools, graduating with the Class of 1937. She was a member of the Pleasantville Christian Church. Opal was united in marriage to Delmar Summy on September 13, 1939. To this union four children were born: David, Madalyn, Flavia Ruth and Kim. They shared 72 wonderful years together before Delmar's death in 2012. Opal was a homemaker and loved caring for her grandchildren.
Opal passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center at the age 96 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, David; husband, Delmar and her daughter Madalyn Sasaki.
Those left to cherish Opal's memory include her daughter Flavia Ruth (Gerald) Johnston of Knoxville; son, Kim (Jeanne) Summy of Atlanta, Georgia; son-in-law, Brian Sasaki of Pleasantville; 6 grandchildren: Dannis Tibboel, Jason Collins, Michele Sasaki and David, Logan and Austin Summy; great-grandchildren: Dustie Wentz and Clay, Chase, Colton, Cash and Elizabeth Collins; step-grandsons, Chad and Jason Johnston; step-great grandchildren: Alexis, Levi, Cody and McKenzie Johnston and Jesse James and many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Funeral Service were held at Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville, Iowa on Monday, December 9, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. with Cliff Haider, Officiating.
Interment at Pleasantville Cemetery in Pleasantville, Iowa. For those desiring, memorials may be made to the Pleasantville Christian Church or to the family.
