Robert's Story

Robert Lee Pippel, son of Peter and Marie (Vande Haar) Pippel was born on December 11, 1929, on the parental farm northeast of Pella. He attended Flint Ridge Country School and graduated from Pella High
School in 1948.
Robert was inducted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War serving from May 1951 - May 1954. On March 27, 1953, he was united in marriage to Jennie Johanna Willemsen, daughter of Henry W. and Jennie (Brouwer) Willemsen, from Monroe, Iowa. The first year of their marriage they lived at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, while Robert finished his last year of military service. They then moved to Pella, where they were currently residing. To this union two children were born: Paul David, April 10, 1954, and Pamela Dawn, April 29, 1957.
Robert worked for the Marion County Road Department for over 30 years. He was a member of Trinity Reformed Church and also a member of the Van Veen-Van Hemert Legion Post 89 of Pella. He drove school bus for Pella Community Schools for 17 years, and he served twelve years as a city councilman in Pella and volunteered several years with Hospice of Pella.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Jennie "Jo"; his son Paul and (Faye) Pippel, and his daughter Pamela and (Hans) Boehm, as well as four granddaughters: Heather Renee Pippel, Zara Noelle Pippel and twins Brianna Kay Boehm and Emily Marie Boehm. Besides his immediate family, Robert leaves his sisters, Ruth Ver Hoef, and Alda Mae and (Jim) Muyskens, two sisters-in-law Helen Pippel, and Jo Ann and (Darrel) Van Wyk, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Harry; his brother-in-law Cal Ver Hoef, his parents-in-law Henry and Jennie Willemsen, and his step-granddaughter Rebecca Faye Clark.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 8, at Trinity Reformed Church in Pella. Memorial donations may be given to Lake View Bible Camp or Samaritan's Purse. Garden Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
