Ronald Duane "R.D." Paulsgrove age 69, of Kingman, Arizona and formerly of Galesburg and Raritan, Illinois died October 17, 2016, at the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Ron was most recently residing at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Ron was born in Maricopa County, Arizona on January 19, 1947, the son of Alice (Torrance) Paulsgrove and Duane Paulsgrove. Ron lived in Arizona until he was five and then he and the family moved to Illinois, where they lived in the Galesburg and Raritan area. Ron graduated from the Galesburg High School, Class of 1965.
After high school Ron resided in Raritan before enlisting into the United States Army in 1966. Ron served in the 101st Airborne. He was wounded by a grenade in June of 1967. Ronald was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Army Commendation Medal with a V.
After his service Ron was self-employed and owned several business. He moved to Lovilia, Iowa in the late 70's where for seven years he owned and operated Lovilia Tire. For over the last 20 years Ron was a real-estate broker in Kingman, Arizona until his health failed and he moved to Iowa to be closer to his girls and grandchildren.
For many years Ron was an active member of the Kingman V.F.W., and the Elk's Lodge. He enjoyed working on his cars and he had a wonderful talent of restoring cars. His favorite was old Chevys.
Ron is survived by his two daughters, Billie Boerre (Lasse) of Grimes, Iowa and Lindsey Smith (Kevin) of Attica, Iowa; and five grandchildren; Helena, Claire, Axel, Kate and Dallas. Ron is also survived by his mother Alice Paulsgrove of Galesburg, Illinois; one brother Rollie Paulsgrove (Cheryl) of Galesburg, Illinois, and one sister Linda Wells of Sun City, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his father Duane Paulsgrove; and his grandparents; Herbert and Gladys Paulsgrove and Ervin and Josie Torrance.
A celebration of Ron's life will be held Saturday, October 29th from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., at the American Legion Post #285, 571 East North Street, Galesburg, Illinois.
At a later date a private family burial, with military rites, will be held at the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery of Adel, Iowa.
