Teddy Lee Harvey was born on January 27, 1930, in Knoxville, Iowa. He was one of three children born to Lorin Samuel Harvey and Alta Marie (Smith) Harvey.
He attended country grade and eventually graduated from Knoxville High School with the class of 1947. Upon graduation from high school Ted was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and worked as a mechanic on F7F TigerCat fighter planes.
Ted was united in marriage with Phyllis Colleen Crabb on August 13, 1952 in Knoxville. To this union six children were born: David Paul, Kathy Elaine, Roger Lee, John Keith, Susan Luann and Galen Keith. The couple lived on base at El Toro Marine Air Base in California, later in Santa Ana, CA until his discharge from the Marines, attained the rank of Sergeant. He then went to telegraph operator school and began work with the Southern Pacific Railroad and they made their home in Nacogdoches, Texas. Ted moved his family back to Knoxville and worked for the Veteran's Administration as a nurse's aid for over 35 years before retiring in 1992.
Ted and Phyllis enjoyed their retirement and especially loved to travel. They visited every state in the nation except for Alaska, and made a trip to Europe. Ted enjoyed coin collecting, model train and railroad sets, carpentry work, and especially doing mechanic work, founding Harvey Repair.
Ted's health began to decline and was diagnosed with cancer. He passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of 87.
Those left to honor his memory are: his loving wife, Phyllis; five children and their families: David and Carolyn Harvey of Pella, Iowa, Sara and Alan Cox, Ella Mae, April and Nick Fitch, Evelyn, Amelia, Jordan and Elizabeth Harvey, Teddy; Kathy Bussell of Knoxville, Iowa, Patricia Franzen, special friend, Ilsis Perez; Roger and Carol Harvey of Grimes, Iowa, Lorin, Aaron, Isaac and Eli Harvey; Susan (Jay) King of Knoxville, Iowa, Elaina and Jacob Vos, Sophia,John and Jessica King, Sawyer, Finn; Galen and Michalle Harvey of Urbandale, Iowa, Nicholas and Kari Harvey, Eleanor, Nathan Harvey. Of his original family Ted leaves his sister, Arvilia and husband Marion Bailey of Knoxville.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bobbie and wife Betty Harvey, his son, John K. Harvey and son-in-law, Jay King. Ted was a member of the American Legion and New Covenant Church.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 19, at the Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville.
