Thomas G. “Squeaks” Leavengood, Jr., was born Oct. 6, 1937, at the family farm just south of Melcher-Dallas to Thomas and Geraldine Wadle Leavengood. He graduated from Melcher High School in 1955. Tom worked at John Deere in Ankeny for 42 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1998. He belonged to the UAW Local 450. Tom was hardworking, dedicated, and loyal in every aspect of his life. He loved the family farm, John Deere, the Knoxville races, and was proud to have served on the Marion County Fair Board for 12 years. Squeaks spent a lot of his free time at the “lawn mower shop” with the guys. He loved to work with his hands and was a bit of a perfectionist. He loved to work on his cars and taught the kids that there was a right way to wash and wax a vehicle. He was a family man and cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He also had a strong faith as a devout Catholic and was active in the church for over 78 years. Tom passed away Nov. 3, 2015, at the Comfort House Hospice in Pella. Preceding him in death were his parents: Thomas and Geraldine; and a brother, Kenneth.
