Helen Frieda Davis
Helen Frieda Davis passed away suddenly on February 26, 2020 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital.
Frieda was born on May 17, 1925 to Kerns P. and Dottie Fay (Rankins) Applegate in Marion County, Iowa. She was one of nine children. Frieda graduated from Attica High School, where she played basketball and enjoyed socials and dances.
Frieda was untied in marriage to Curtis Hughes Davis on April 20, 1946. Together they had a daughter, Doris Jeanne Davis.
Frieda was a homemaker and farm wife in rural Lovilia. She was a woman of faith who saw the power of prayer working in her life daily. Frieda enjoyed reading the Bible, writing letters to friends and family, and word search puzzles. A sweet woman, she was delighted with visitors and always had a smile for her caregivers.
Frieda is survived by her siblings Evelyn Smith (Knoxville), Martha Anderson (Cedar Falls) and John Applegate (Knoxville), and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She will especially be missed by her dog Blackie and her dear friend Judy Sytsma.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter and siblings Louise Longcor, William B. Applegate, Kerns Applegate, Jr., Phyllis Piagentini, and Naomi Rutzinski.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents at Homestead Assisted Living for helping to make her later years safe, comfortable and joyful. She loved Tuesday and Friday BINGO, puppy visits, chats with caregivers and attending Sunday afternoon church services.
Frieda was cremated per her wishes. Internment at the Lovilia Cemetery will take place on a later date.
